"...I remember biking to Peaches about 20 years ago to buy my first cassette tape (Whitney Houston) when the store was still on Gentilly Boulevard. The showroom was so small I think it was cooled by a single window air-conditioning unit and was practically bursting at the seams with new and used tapes and vinyl, as well as band posters documenting many genres of music (Vanilla Ice was on the wall too, although I doubt anyone will admit to that). Peaches has grown since then and it's new store Uptown has 15,000 square feet of space to display CDs, swag emblazoned with Peaches' distinctive logo and even more cool-again vinyl. The new location once was a Woolworths with a 1940s lunch counter, and Peaches is trying to raise enough money to buy the lunch counter and reopen it. The store also plans to host live music..."

5th ANNUAL NOLA HIP-HOP AWARDS HONORS PEACHES RECORDS OWNER SHIRANI REA

"...Over at Peaches Records, Ms. Rea also employed local artists, including a young Mia X and Loren Phillips, who edited and published New Orleans' first hip-hop magazine "Da R.U.D.E." in the 1990s. Rea was an early champion of the Cash Money Records label, hosting album release parties in the shop's original Gentilly location...and helping to shepherd the fledgling label through the signing of its landmark distribution deal with Universal Music..."
